Warriors Ratings From Thriller At Campbell Town
1 - Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad 9/10
Another awesome performance by the fullback. 233 metres from a whopping 28 carries. Was solid under the high ball in awful conditions for an outside back and made a critical tackle on Turuva to seal the game in the final minutes. There’s speculation around his future but despite that he managed to put in another performance highlighting his return to form.
2 - Taine Tuaupiki 8/10
Tuaupiki once again showed his versatility as a player. A real all round performance, 144 metres, an offload and made 100% of his tackles. Made the read and play that resulted in Leka Halasima’s wonder try to seal the game, with Tuaupiki bouncing to the short side and executing a perfect draw and pass to send Halasima into space. Is certainly making a statement that he has to be in the side somewhere even when DWZ and RTS return from inujury.
3 - Ali Leiataua 6/10
A quiet game for a guy who has started the season on fire. Only had 6 carries for 61 metres. Clearly the Tigers came into the game with a plan to shut him down and will be interesting how he copes with being higher up on the opposing teams scouting reports for the rest of the season. Made a key play out of dummy half resulting in Halasima’s game winning effort on the right edge. Might have been quiet but was solid.
4 - Adam Pompey 7/10
Looked like the reincarnation of Jonah Lomu for his try to start the game, but after that effort did not contribute a whole lot more. Made 113 metres and 11 tackles with one miss, gave away a set restart and made a handling error. After Ed Kosi’s effort this week could be at risk of losing his starting spot to Rocco Berry after the bye.
23 - Ed Kosi 8/10
His best performance in a Warriors jersey for a while. Made 200 metres off of 18 carries in 69 minutes, with 60 post contact metres. Also had a team high 3 offloads. His power in the carry was so crucial and his absence was noticeable when he went off for an HIA. Made a couple handling errors which is holding him back from a higher rating, but I’d like to see him retain his spot against the Storm after the bye.
6 - Chanel Harris-Tavita 9/10
Another strong performance in the halves. Had a try assist alongside a line break for Metcalf’s try to start the second half and made a whopping 29 tackles with only two misses. As I mentioned in my ratings last week he was the dominant half against the Roosters, and in this game him and Metcalf had the same amount of receipts, passes and kicks. Clearly they are starting to figure out a great balance as a halves pairing.
7 - Luke Metcalf 9/10
A mature and well controlled performance by the newly appointed halfback. The key to his performance was him unlocking his running game. It is well known and has been said by many people including me that he is at his best when he runs the ball, which he did on the weekend with 116 metres. There were certainly points in the game were we could’ve (and in the past would’ve) lost control and fell out of the contest but even after falling behind for the first time in the 52nd minute Metcalf managed to grasp back control of the game and keep us in the grind. Was 100% off of the tee which included a tough kick to convert Halasima’s try and the penalty goal to win the game.
8 - James Fisher-Harris 6/10
51 minutes of productive work for the co-captain. 120 metres from 13 carries, made 37 tackles with 3 misses and created the space for Adam Pompey to run into for the opening try of the game. Gave away a penalty and then missed the tackle on Fonua Pole for the Tigers opening try, but helped right the ship when he came on for his second stint right after the Tigers final try.
9 - Wayde Egan 9/10
Mr Reliable strikes again. Cut through the Tigers defence at the beginning of the second half and found Chanel Harris-Tavita who then sent Metcalf over for his try. Made 54 metres off of seven carries along with 45 tackles with 5 misses. His creativity at the base of the ruck takes so much pressure off our halves and is made of steel playing 80 minutes in the middle again. If he keeps this form up, will Origin potentially call his name?
10 - Mitch Barnett 6/10
Uncharacterisitcally underwhelming would be the best way to describe Barney’s performance. Made 131 metres off of 14 carries and made 30 tackles without a miss. But, he made two key handling errors and gave away a set restart. These errors are rare in Barney’s game and is certainly unexpected, but I don’t think anything to worry about. I expect him to come out swinging after the bye.
11 - Kurt Capewell 5/10
Poor performance by the incumbent Origin second rower. Only made 71 metres on eight carries, interestingly all of which were hit ups, showing that maybe he was slightly underutilised. Made 35 tackles but missed eight, as well as the missed tackles he gave away a penalty and a set restart. The weather didn’t help his cause as both teams mainly went through the middle due to the tough conditions but not a good night for a second rower to be underwhelming given how Leka Halasima played off the interchange.
12 - Marata Niukore 5/10
Grabbed himself a rare try, finally some reward for his incredible line running. I genuinely think he is one of, if not the best line runner in the comp and I still think we struggle to use him properly. This shows with him only having eight carries in 61 minutes. Made 18 tackles with four misses, made an error at the play the ball and gave away two frustrating penalties, his discipline is proving to be an issue. Similar to Capewell though it was a tough night to be a second rower but with Leka’s showing his starting spot could be in jeopardy.
13 - Erin Clark 8/10
16 carries for 159 metres including 61 post contact metres. Had a team high 14 hit ups in just 49 minutes. He is proving to be one of the best signings of the off season and a real sparkplug for our offence and stalwart of our defence, with 30 tackles and three misses. Made an error and gave away a set restart, but along with Fish and Barney helped gain back ascendency in the battle of the forward packs when he came back on for his second stint.
15 - Jackson Ford 7/10
14 carries, 147 metres and a team high 62 post contact metres. Matched Erin Clark with a joint team high 14 hit ups, but Ford played just 38 minutes. Made 23 tackles but missed five, gave away a set restart but overall has revived his career in the opening four rounds of the season. After a tough 2024 there were questions around his spot in the side but he has absolutely proved his worth through the first four rounds and the punch he brings as first cab off of the interchange has been crucial to our three wins.
16 - Demitric Vaimauga 6/10
Disappointing showing in my opinion. Seven carries for 90 metres shows the power he possesses around the park. Made 19 tackles in just 29 minutes, missing only two. But, the effort he made on Latu Fainu when he broke through our line was atrocious. A swinging arm attempting to dislodge the ball when I personally think he could have covered the ground to make the tackle. Still very early in his career and was definitely a brain fade.
17 - Leka Halasima 9/10
What a talent. Round 18 last year he debuted against the Bulldogs and came inches away from scoring a wonder try to clinch the game for us. Fast forward to round 4 2025, and there was no denying him this time. Could talk about the try all day but also did his core jobs around the park with 11 tackles, 30 post contact metres and three tackle breaks. Gave away a set restart which is the only thing stopping him from a 10/10.
22 - Bunty Afoa 8/10
Solid shift from the fan favourite. Played only 26 minutes but still managed 11 carries and 114 metres, 51 of them post contact. Was as powerful as ever and has a burning desire to carry the ball which is contagious. Would be happy to see him remain in the starting 17 for the foreseeable future to provide some much needed experience off of the interchange.
